Teaching Interests: Dr. Rezanejad teaches various courses, including animal developmental biology, animal physiology and principles of genetics. He is enthusiastic about utilizing teaching techniques that keep students engaged, such as active learning and universal design for learning (UDL). He believes that there is an immeasurable reward in helping others to understand and grasp knowledge. Research Interests: Dr. Rezanejad’s research is designed for undergraduate students in advanced independent study (BIOL 498) and honours students. Over the past decade, his research has been dedicated to advancing the understanding of diabetes, a pervasive health concern impacting 422 million worldwide. At the Joslin Diabetes Center, Dr. Rezanejad focused on cell therapy in type 1 diabetes by studying the regeneration of beta cells, which are crucial for producing insulin. Through innovative approaches, such as pioneering a 3D organotypic culture system, Dr. Rezanejad has sought to mimic the natural environment to study beta cell regeneration more accurately. Now, proposing integrating CRISPR-on technology, he aims to contribute to the field by inducing key pancreatic endocrine transcription factors, paving the way for enhanced beta cell generation from different cell types. This important research holds promise for advancing diabetes treatment and improving the lives of millions affected by this condition. | Cellular biology, molecular biology, diabetes, stem cells, organoids, teaching, higher education
