Research interests

I have a varied background that has nurtured my skills and knowledge, allowing me to undertake an innovative and relevant research program, looking at science and technology development for the biomass conversion industry. This is inclusive of research looking at biomass conversion and value adding, use of CO2 in extraction/separation, development of novel catalysts, novel analytic tools and techniques, process analytics and alternative process tools for green chemistry. The research I have been conducting at MacEwan University focuses on conversion of biomass to value-added products, development of novel environmental analytical methods and development of process tools for improved extraction and separation using liquid/supercritical CO2. Recently, I was a visiting professor at Queen’s University where I furthered my work in process analytics, specifically looking at the development of a supercritical fluid rectification system for bioproduct separation, which will include the supercritical CO2 on-line GC. In addition, my lab has been exploring the use of alternative solvents such as switchable hydrophilicity solvents as catalysts in organic chemistry. | Green chemistry, flow chemistry, catalysis, process design, super-critical fluids, bio-products, biomass conversion, alternative solvents
