Sharifi’s research is organized around a central question: how do individuals live and work authentically? Her work examines leadership, work and life through the lens of authenticity and calling, engaging questions of identity, meaningful work and well‑being while informing more equitable, care‑centered HRM practices. She studies how women whose leadership and work are shaped by various identity markers (for example, race, health and age) navigate being seen as authentic in environments that maintain prototypical expectations of leadership including work on BIPOC women academics’ calling and voice and women leaders’ experiences of humor as both a relational leadership tool and a resistance strategy. She also brings authenticity into conversation with women’s health, relational life in dual‑career and intimate partnerships and human–animal relationships, examining how each of these domains shapes self‑determination, belonging and work–life integration. Sharifi’s teaching interests closely mirror her research. She is especially drawn to human resource management, leadership and management, recruitment and selection, managing teams, organizational behaviour, and research methods, where questions of authenticity, identity and equity are central. In her teaching, she encourages students to engage with course material in constructive ways, often through structured debates, case discussions and personal reflections that draw parallels between theory and practice. Drawing on many years of industry and professional experience, she anchors classroom conversations in real organizational dilemmas and HR challenges, often in conversation with industry experts and leaders. Teaching is a central part of her scholarly identity, and she is committed to designing enjoyable learning experiences where students connect course concepts to their own identities, relationships and potential callings. She understands her research and teaching as a life calling through which she hopes to partner with students to develop diverse forms of knowledge and to encourage meaningful learning that extends beyond the classroom into workplaces, communities and broader society. | Leadership, authenticity, calling, intersectionality, authentic leadership, race, gender
